You may feel stressed and that everything is too much to carry when goals are not met at work, coworkers push you to your boundaries, or your personal life interferes with your working life. We have information to help lower stress and manage expectations if you landed on this post in search of answers to help you cope with being a leader or in search of knowledge about boss life.
Communication
When issues are not resolved right away, tension builds up among staff and eventually reaches the leader of the company. When pressure is appropriately handled, it’s not always a bad thing. It’s only when pressure is ignored or when you start to trick yourself about the reality of the situation that it becomes uncomfortable.
The best course of action in this situation is to let your leadership team and the company know about the issue and your proposed solution. In order to avoid leaving your staff in the dark, communicate to them and keep them informed of the situation.
This will relieve some of your workload-related stress and may even allow for assistance from others. Try to keep positive, at the end of the day everything gets resolved one way or another, there is that saying ‘ light at the end of the tunnel’ for a reason.
Prioritise
You and your team can only work under pressure for so long until you become exhausted, which will make you feel unproductive and cause your team to crumble. Instead, try to get teams to prioritise tasks. What are the initiatives with the greatest potential for impact? Then cross some items off the proverbial to-do list. Pressure will always exist, but it can be managed in order to feel more focused.
Focus
A trait that most leaders find, is that most of their pressure is self-inflicted rather than coming directly from other people, sometimes doing the most is self sabotage. It is your job to define the line between being productive and unproductive and the pressure that aligns with both.
You must take care of yourself because you are the leader, and when you take care of yourself, you are better able to take care of others. When workers feel cared for, they will treat you and your company with the same respect.
Ultimately, if you don’t recognise the impact stress has on your life, pressure will take advantage of you. Focus so that you don’t allow the pressure to take advantage of you.
